NORTHFIELD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team improved to 6-0 with a convincing game one win followed by a game two victory in extra innings over the University of Minnesota Morris Friday night at the Dundas Dome.

Game 1: CSS 11, UMM 0 (F/5)
For the second consecutive start, Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) allowed only one hit and struck out five to earn the shutout in the pitcher's circle.

The Saints scored three runs, all with two outs, in the top of the first thanks to back-to-back doubles by Mara Seurer (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) and Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS). CSS added one run in each of the next two innings with a RBI single by Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and Seurer scoring on a wild pitch.

St. Scholastica took advantage of a Morris error to score three runs in the fourth. Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) and Seurer had RBIs in the inning to make it 8-0.

Rosenthal helped herself at the plate with a RBI in the fifth. Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Alex Wurzer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) also drove in runs in the inning to make the final 11-0.

Seurer was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sydney Plemel (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Breuer also crossed the plate three times in the victory. Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) recorded a pair of doubles.

Game 2: CSS 2, UMM 1 (F/8)
Offense was hard to come by in the nightcap. Both teams combined for only four hits through seven innings of play. The contest went to extra innings scoreless with the international tiebreaker implemented.

The Cougars got a two-out RBI double in the top half of the eighth inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom frame, with only one hit to this point, Fourre led off with a RBI double to tie the game at 1-1. Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)) then came in to pinch hit and followed with a game-winning walk-off double to make the final 2-1.

Howe scattered four hits and struck out six to improve to 3-0 on the season. Offensively, the Saints did not strikeout once, but managed only three hits in the contest
