csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored four times in the first period and four more times in the third period to take the first game of a home-and-home series against Marian University (Wis.) 8-1 Friday night.
How it Happened
The Saints scored three goals in the opening 8:12 of the game with
Lily Holtz (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) scoring her first of the season, followed by
Emily Sabol's (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) second of the year and finally
Kayla Kasel's (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) sixth goal. CSS added its fourth goal of the period when
Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) found the net with six minutes remaining to make it 4-0 at the first intermission.
Following a scoreless second period,
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) scored unassisted less than two minutes into the third period.
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) then scored her first of the season two minutes later.
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) and
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) netted the final two goals for the Saints to make the final 8-1.
Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) made 13 saves in the win for St. Scholastica, while Lindsey Lewison had 29 saves in the loss for the Sabres.
