LAKEVILLE, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team got its 2021 season underway Sunday evening with an 8-1 loss to undefeated Luther College (Iowa).
Doubles
The Norse (9-0) played eight conference matches in the fall and ran the table. Sunday's match against the Saints was their first of the spring season. Luther would sweep all three doubles matches to begin the night.
Singles
The Saints got its lone win of the evening with first-year performer
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) prevailing in a tightly-contested match at the No. 1 spot by scores of 7-5, 7-6. Her opponent was 7-2 on the year entering the match and was the American Rivers Conference runner-up in the fall individual tournament.
Junior
Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) also dropped a close contest at the No. 6 singles position by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

The Saints return to the court on Friday where they will face Concordia University Wisconsin at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Club in Jackson, Wisconsin. Action is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
