SAINT PAUL (csssaints.com) – On Wednesday night, St. Scholastica's women's basketball team was defeated on the road 69-48 against Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.

How It Happened

The Saints took the lead early in the game as Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) scored the first four points of the contest. They were able to maintain their lead until four minutes into the game when the Scots (4-4, 2-3 MIAC) went on a 10-0 run. Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) made a layup midway through the quarter to stop the run. By the end of the first quarter St. Scholastica was trailing Macalester 15-11.

The second quarter was off to a rough start for CSS as Macalester quickly took a 10-point lead.
The Saints would trail by at least six points for the remainder of the quarter. Karli Nixon (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) made a 3-pointer in the quarter and Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS) made a jumper in the last few seconds of the half, bringing the score to 33-26.

After the half, a Broberg 3-pointer cut the deficit to six. However, the Scots outscored the Saints 16-4 the rest of the quarter to lead by 18 heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) put up five out of CSS' 15 points. The Saints weren't able to catch up to Macalester and the final ended up being 69-48.
