NORTHFIELD, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was outscored 45-27 in the second half at Carleton College on Saturday, falling by a final of 76-52.
How It Happened
CSS started off strong, and even though they didn't score first,
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) made a 3-pointer to give the Saints the lead. Throughout this first quarter, CSS was never down by more than one point. Majority of the quarter the Saints were in front and had a five-point lead following a
Grace Balut (Sandstone, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) 3-pointer. By the end of the first quarter it was a tie game 16-16. Broberg contributed with nine points to the 16 points for St. Scholastica.
The second quarter started with a 3-pointer by
Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS). But unfortunately, the Saints momentum had slowed down after that. The Knights (3-4, 2-3 MIAC) went on an 11-0 run to take 27-19lead. CSS was held to nine points in the period. At halftime St. Scholastica was trailing Carleton by six, 31-25.
Carleton used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to distance themselves from the Saints. Entering the final quarter, the Saints trailed 54-37. In the final quarter the Saints were able to put up 15. But as CSS started to put more points on the board Carleton did as well. Despite their efforts to come back, St. Scholastica fell by a final of 76-52.
