csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was outscored 30-7 in the first quarter as it fell to Augsburg University 82-55 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play Wednesday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
The Saints committed four turnovers before they attempted a field goal as the Auggies (3-3, 3-0 MIAC) jumped out to a 19-0 lead to open the game. A
Karli Nixon (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) 3-pointer with 4:30 remaining got the Saints on the board. Augsburg led 30-7 after 10 minutes of play.
CSS outscored Augsburg in the second quarter 14-13 with Nixon recording six of the team's 14 points. The Saints trailed 43-21 at the half.
The Auggies used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to extend their lead, but St. Scholastica finished strong in the fourth quarter with a 19-14 scoring edge to make the final score 82-55. Seven different Saints scored in the final quarter as the team shot 57%.
Top Performers
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) led the Saints with 13 points and also dished out a team-high four assists.
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) added eight points.
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) led the team with seven rebounds.
Jen Masello led Augsburg with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
