DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – On Tuesday night, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team dropped its season opener to Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 3-2 at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
Superior (3-0-0) wasted no time getting the first goal within the first minute of the game. The Saints, battling to even up the score, were able to do so seven minutes in on a
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) goal. Before the first period ended UWS scored their second goal, ending the first period 2-1.
The second period started out in favor for St. Scholastica as they were able to tie up the score a second time with a goal by
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS). The 2-2 score didn't last through the period as Superior pulled ahead 3-2 with a power-play goal.
Both teams played hard, Superior trying to hold their lead and CSS trying to even the score in the third period. The Saints had a power play but despite that just could not get the puck to find the back of the net. After a scoreless third period the final was 3-2.
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) had 30 saves for the Saints. 11 of them being in the first period, 12 in the second period, and seven in the third period.
