COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL TEAMS
DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – For the second consecutive season, St. Scholastica volleyball's
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and football's
Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) have been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as both the volleyball and football teams were announced on Thursday.
Burns joins Nikki Hughes as the only St. Scholastica volleyball player to earn multiple CoSIDA Academic All-District laurels. Burns led the Saints this season with 133 kills and a .314 hitting percentage. She was second on the team in blocks with 22. Her hitting percentage ranked second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Burns, who earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry in the spring is currently pursuing her Masters in Chemistry, continues to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
Adrian, who was a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American in the spring, becomes the sixth St. Scholastica football player to earn Academic All-District accolades multiple times. Adrian led the Saints this season with 61 receptions for 467 yards and three scores. Adrian averaged 7.6 receptions per game, which ranks eighth in NCAA Division III.
The Biology major carries a 3.83 grade-point-average and holds the program record for career receptions (206).
Both Burns and Adrian are now eligible for the Academic All-America Team ballot, where All-America honorees will be selected in mid-December.
The All-Academic Teams, which are selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA participants.
St. Scholastica is included in District 6 and includes NCAA Division III institutions from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
