DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – In its second consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup against the Oles of St. Olaf College, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team recorded its second consecutive shutout, defeating the Oles 4-0 Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The first period saw an early attack from the Saints, resulting in nine shots on goal, opposed to St. Olaf's four. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period.
It took the Saints a mere 52 seconds into the second period to score their first goal of the evening, coming from
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) on an assist by
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). The second period saw CSS once again out-shoot the Oles and near the end of the second period, the Saints cracked the scoreboard again, this time it was from Thompson and assisted by Haedrich and
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS). The Saints ended the period with a 2-0 lead.
The third period saw great execution from the Saints' penalty kill. CSS had three penalties in the period, only to see all them get killed off. Halfway into the period, the Saints again found the back of the net.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) was to credit for this goal and it was assisted by Bussey as well. With three minutes left in the period,
Jessie Ketola (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelly HS) scored her first goal of the season, assisted by
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS).
For the second consecutive night, CSS shutout the Oles. Tonight, it was
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) in the net. She stopped all 19 of St. Olaf's shots on goal helped CSS prevail to a 4-0 victory.
