NORTHFIELD, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team defeated Carleton College in four sets, but fell to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in four sets on Saturday.
CSS 3, Carleton 1
The Saints began the day by earning their third MIAC victory of the season with a close four-set win over Carleton (6-17, 1-8 MIAC).
The first set featured nine ties, but just two lead changes. The Knights edged the Saints in the first set 25-23.
Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) led the Saints with six kills in the set.
The Saints were never behind in the second set and went on to roll to a 25-17 win to even the match.
Alana Mayry (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) led CSS with four kills in the set.
The third set featured 17 ties and six lead changes. St. Scholastica led by four at one point, but later trailed by two points. The set went to overtime so-to-say as CSS fought off a Carleton set point and then the Knights fought off two Saints set points. However, a
Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) kill on the third set point gave the Saints a 29-27 win.
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had six kills in the set.
CSS trailed 20-14 in the fourth set, but rallied to tie it at 22-22. On the second match point, a Carleton hitting error gave the Saints the set and the match 26-24.
Rohwer had a career-high 17 kills with Burns adding a season-high 13 kills and Mayry a career-high 12 kills.
Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 33 assists and went over 1,000 career assists in the match.
Ellie Greenwaldt (Raymond, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian School) added 24 assists.
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) had 29 digs.
UW-Platteville 3, CSS 1
The Saints then went out of conference to face UW-Platteville (12-14) and fell in four sets.
The Pioneers did not trail in the opening set and won 25-18.

Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) kill gave the Saints a 23-20 lead in the second set, but three straight CSS attack errors tied it at 23-23. St. Scholastica still would have three set points, but could not close it out. Back-to-back errors by the Saints gave the Pioneers their first set point and they converted to take a two-set lead 29-27.
Caitlin Schneeweis (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Mary)) led the Saints with four kills in the set.
The Saints denied Platteville of a three-game sweep as CSS cruised to a third set win 25-16.
However, the Pioneers did not trail in set four and went on to take the set and match 25-21.
Delaney Schaeffer (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) had a career-high 10 kills for the Saints. Schneeweis added nine kills. Greenwaldt had a team-high 20 assists and Draper finished with 26 digs.
