ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team made the trip to St. Paul Saturday evening in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup against the Scots of Macalester College. The Saints played a very competitive match, but unfortunately fell to Macalester in four games.

How it Happened
The opening set saw the Saints jump out to an early 6-0 lead. Macalester (11-8, 2-4 MIAC) responded by scoring seven of the next eight points to even the match at seven. The Scots began to pull ahead in the set but a trio of kills delivered from Caitlin Schneeweis (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Mary)) kept the Saints in the set. The Saints would have three set points, but the Scots denied CSS all three times and would ultimately take the set 29-27.

The second set saw the Saints get another early lead, leading at one point 11-5. Macalester again fought back to tie it at 11. The Saints were able to fight off the Scots in set two, led by big kills from Alana Mayry (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Schneeweis, to win 25-23.

Macalester took an early lead in the third set, leading 12-5. A pair of kills my Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) gave the Saints a chance to win the set, but fell in set three, 25-20

Set four was an incredible battle of back and forth action between Macalester and CSS. The set saw four lead changes, many of them coming late in the set, but Macalester took set four 25-23, winning the match.

Top Performers
Schneeweis led CSS with a season-high 15 kills in tonight's matchup. Burns, Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), and Mayry each had 10 kills as well. Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) also added 27 digs.
