WINONA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team returned to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action and dropped a 3-1 decision at Saint Mary's University Friday night.
 
How it Happened
With the score 6-6 in the opening set, the Cardinals (6-12, 2-1 MIAC) scored four consecutive points and led the rest of the way to take the set 25-19. Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) had four kills and two blocks in the opening set for the Saints.
 
In the second set, a pair of kills by Alana Mayry (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) gave the Saints a 15-12 advantage. Remer closed out the set with a kill as the Saints evened the match 25-22.
 
After falling behind by four points in the third set, CSS tied the set at 15-15. However, Saint Mary's scored 10 of the next 11 points to take the third set 25-16. Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had four kills in the set for the Saints.
 
St. Scholastica fell behind again in the fourth set, but rallied to take a 12-10 lead following a Delaney Schaeffer (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) kill. The Cardinals regained the lead at 14-13 and led the rest of the way to take the set and match 25-18.
 
Top Performers
Remer led the Saints with 11 kills and recorded a career-high 30 digs. Burns added a season-high 10 kills and Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) finished with eight kills. Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 24 assists and Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) registered a team-high 33 digs.
 
Up Next
The Saints (0-6, 0-2 MIAC) remain on the road and will face the College of Saint Benedict at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) night.
