Women’s Hockey Completes Sweep of Auggies in Home Opener

Notables
-Anderson records 90th career point
-Huseby registers eighth career shutout

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team finished the weekend sweep of Augsburg University Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena 3-0 behind a shutout performance from senior goaltender Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS).

How it Happened
The Saints started the first period strong, but found themselves struggling to generate offense in the period. On a faceoff win by Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), Lily Holtz (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) moved the puck to Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) who put the Saints on the board with her first goal of the season and 1:23 left in the first period.

The second period was a back-and-forth affair until the 16:36 mark of the when Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) sprung Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) on a breakaway where she netted her first of the year to put the Saints up 2-0.

In the third period, the Saints continued to press Augsburg. Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) found Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) driving the far post to put the Saints up 3-0 early in the third. Credit goes out to Augsburg, who did not quit on the game. They pressed on and generated a 2-skater advantage late in the third. However, Huseby made a couple of strong saves and her defense was also up to the task to help the Saints preserve the 3-0 shut out victory and bring the Saint a home and home sweep of the Auggies.

Goaltending
Huseby stopped all 34 shots she faced for her eighth career shutout. Augsburg split the goaltending duties with McClain stopping 5 of 6 shots faced and Stockinger stopping 6 of 8.

Up Next
The Saints will travel to Winona on Wednesday to take on Saint Mary's University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
