DENVER, Colo. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's and women's nordic ski programs had a record 13 athletes earn All-Academic laurels from the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA); it was announced on Friday.
The men's team had a program-best seven skiers named, while the women's team had six recognized. CSS trailed only Williams College (Mass.), who had 15, for the most among NCAA Division III ski programs.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and have competed in one of three NCAA Regional Championships.
Jack Christianson (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) became the second CSS skier in program history to earn the honor four consecutive seasons (Paul Schommer). Junior
Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) was named for the third straight year.
Sophomores
Bjorn Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Colorado State)),
Gus Schatzlein (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS), along with junior
Ryan Steger (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), were named for a second time.
Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS),
Lars Dewall (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater HS),
Leah Dutkewych (Jefferson, N.H./White Mountains HS),
Maja Petersson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium),
Gwinna Remillard (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville HS),
John Schwinghamer (Mora, Minn./Mora HS (South Dakota State)) and
Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) were named for the first time.
This year's recipients came from 27 teams in all three regions in the United States. In the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association, a total of 152 student-athletes were honored from 14 institutions. In the Central Collegiate Ski Association, a total of 47 student-athletes were honored from five teams and in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association, a total of 92 student-athletes were honored from eight schools.
