csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team fell in a tight match to Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) to begin the day on Sunday and also fell under the lights to Saint Mary's College (Ind.) at the USTA National Campus to open its Spring Break trip.
Saint Ambrose 5, CSS 4
The Fighting Bees (6-4) won two of the three doubles matches to begin play. The No. 3 team of
Sydney Vyskocil (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) and
Anna Roberts (Victoria, Minn. /Chanhassen HS) were the lone winners by an 8-1 final. The No. 2 team of
Syd Holt (Pequot Lakes, Minn. /Pequot Lakes HS) and
Madeline Samz (Burnsville, Minn. /Burnsville HS) fell in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3).
In singles action,
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) was victorious at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Maren Pedersen (Stillwater, Minn. /Stillwater HS) won her first collegiate singles match in straight sets at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-0.
Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) was awarded the win after her opponent retired with Valentini up a set.
Saint Mary's 8, CSS 1
The Belles (3-1) defeated the Saints under the lights 8-1. The lone CSS winner was Holt at No. 2 singles in a third-set super-breaker 6-1, 0-6, (10-8).
