Dawson Reaches 100 Wins as Softball Sweeps on Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team won its first games of its spring trip on Tuesday defeating both Monmouth College (Ill.) and Geneva College (Pa.) at The Spring Games.
 
CSS 6, Monmouth 2
The Saints earned their first win down in Florida with a 6-2 victory to begin the day.
 
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) had a big game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. She was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Howe drove in both her runs with a triple in the first to score Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) and Autumn Siers (Superior, Wis./Superior HS).
 
A Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) RBI double in the third brought in Howe to make it 3-0. Krysta Felber (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) brought in Bishop with a RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0. Kayla Christopherson (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS (Itasca CC)) added a RBI single in the fourth and brought in Howe again in the sixth to make the final 6-2.
 
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) scattered five hits and struck out four to earn the win in the pitching circle.
 
CSS 13, Geneva 1
The Saints scored 13 unanswered runs after trailing early to defeat the Golden Tornadoes (2-3) 13-1 in the second game on Tuesday.
 
Geneva was able to push a run across in the bottom of the first and held a 1-0 lead through four innings. However, in the fifth inning, Siers got the Saints on the board with a RBI double to being in Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS). Howe followed with a two-run single to give CSS a 3-1 lead.
 
Later in the inning with two outs, the Saints had the bases loaded. Kate Broderick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) doubled in two runs to extend the lead to 5-1. Christopherson then scored on a wild pitch and Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had a two-run single as the Saints led 8-1.
 
St. Scholastica added to its lead in the top of the seventh with an Anders RBI single. After Breuer scored on a Geneva error, Howe hit a RBI single. Felber brought in the final two runs of the day with another single to make the final 13-1.
 
Howe did it all, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Howe also earned the win in the pitching circle scattering six hits and allowed only the one run over seven innings.
 
Bishop was also 4-for-5 in the game with two runs scored. Fourre was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
 
The win gave Head Coach Rilee Dawson her 100th career coaching win.
 
Up Next
The Saints (5-5) will have an off-day on Wednesday and will resume action on Thursday against Husson University (Maine) and The Sage Colleges (N.Y.). Action begins at 10:30 a.m. (ET).
