LEESBURG, Fla. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team dropped both of its contests on Thursday at The Spring Games, falling to Husson University (Maine) and The Sage Colleges (N.Y.).
Husson 2, CSS 1
The Eagles (4-5) got a two-out single in the top of the first and then broke a 1-1 with a RBI single in the third and that was the difference as the Saints fell 2-1.
CSS got the leadoff batter on base in each of the first three innings and finally broke through in the third when
Autumn Siers (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) singled in
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) to tie the game at 1-1.
After Husson regained the lead, the Saints put runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not push the run across either time, falling by a score of 2-1.
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) struck out four for the Saints.
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) had a pair of hits to lead the St. Scholastica offense.
Sage 7, CSS 1
Defensive miscues were St. Scholastica's downfall in the second game, falling to the Gators 7-1.
The Saints began the game with an error and that run would ultimately come around to score later in the inning to give Sage 1-0 advantage.
The Saints then committed another error to open the third inning and that miscue led to four unearned runs scoring for the Gators (6-5) to make it 5-0. Sage added another two-out, two-run single in the fourth to make it 7-0.
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) led off the sixth inning with a home run over the centerfield wall to make the final 7-1.
Howe and Anders each had two hits to lead the CSS offense.
