ROCHESTER, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team went 1-1 on Sunday to wrap up play at the Luther College Dome Tournament at the Rochester Dome, falling to Dominican University (Ill.), but responding to take down Edgewood College (Wis.).

Dominican 6, CSS 2
The Stars (1-3) took advantage of CSS errors in the fourth inning to score four runs and that proved to be a difference in a 6-2 loss to open action on Sunday.

Dominican scored one run in the first, but would also have a runner thrown out at the plate in the inning. The Saints were held hitless through the first three innings before Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) led off the fourth with a hit. Later in the inning, with two outs, Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) was able to drop one in and score Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) from second to tie the game at 1-1.

However, the Saints would commit a pair of errors in the bottom of the fourth and paired with four Dominican hits led to four Star runs to regain the lead at 5-1. After Dominican added another run in the fifth inning, the Saints plated their second run on a Bishop sacrifice fly that scored Anders. However, it wasn't enough as CSS suffered its first loss of the season by a 6-2 margin.

Each of the first five batters in the CSS lineup had a hit, but that is all they had, while Dominican recorded 12 hits. Howe struck out four in the defeat.

CSS 7, Edgewood 1
The Saints wrapped up play down in Rochester with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap over Edgewood.

CSS held the Eagles (0-2) off the scoreboard in the top of the first after Autumn Siers (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) threw out a runner at the plate from left field to end the inning. Anders and Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) then led off the bottom of the frame with infield singles and Anders eventually scored on a Howe groundout to make it 1-0.

It stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the third when Mara Seurer (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) delivered a two-out, two-run double to extend the lead to 3-0. Anders scored her third run of the game in the fourth off another Howe groundout to make it 4-0.

Edgewood, on the other hand, had two hits in the top of the first and then was hitless over the next four innings by first-year pitcher Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS). However, the Eagles would get to Rosenthal in the sixth with four consecutive singles to leadoff the inning and make the score 4-1. However, Rosenthal got an infield fly and struck out the next two batters looking to get out of the jam.

St. Scholastica added more insurance in the bottom of the sixth with RBIs from Siers, Anders and Thul to make the final tally 7-1.

Anders was 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the CSS offense. Rosenthal struck out six and scattered seven hits to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
