ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to Crown College for its final Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) road contest on Saturday afternoon. The Saints held a short lead for the first quarter, but used a 9-0 second quarter run to gain a lead and held that lead for the remainder of the game to win 70-49.
 
How It Happened
The Saints would get on the board with a jumper by Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) and four straight points from Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) to gain a 6-2 lead. Both teams traded buckets before a jumper with 10 seconds left by Julia Manor (Minong, Wis./Northwood HS) gave CSS a 13-11 lead into the second quarter.
 
The Storm (4-17, 1-11 UMAC) gained a one-point early in the second quarter, but the Saints would regain the lead with a three by Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)). Later in the second, CSS went on a 9-0 run, with seven points coming from Kennedy to make it 31-18. The Saints led 31-20 at the break.
 
St. Scholastica maintained a double-digit lead for much of the third quarter and led 44-34 heading into the fourth quarter. The Saints started out the final quarter dominating both ends of the court going on a 13-0 run in the first three and a half minutes holding a 57-34 lead. The Saints would continue their dominance on both ends of the court winning the game 70-49.
 
Top Performers
Kennedy led all players with 25 points. Skog followed with 12 points. Christina Furey (Lake Charles, La./Homeschooled) brought down seven rebounds and Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) dished out five assists in the win.
 
Up Next
The Saints (9-13, 7-6 UMAC) will close out the final three regular season games at home beginning with bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday night at the Reif Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
