DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team trailed Finlandia University (Mich.) for two periods before scoring three times in the third period to win 3-1 Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Lions scored five minutes into the game and held that lead until the 11-minute-mark of the third period. The Saints outshot Finlandia 40-11 in the first two periods, but had nothing to show for it.
After a Lion penalty in the third period, CSS finally broke through just moments later as
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) was open below the left circle and ripped one into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) had the assists.
It stayed 1-1 until the final two minutes of regulation when
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) found
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) for the go-ahead goal with 1:52 remaining. After Finlandia, emptied its net,
Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) found the open net to make the final 3-1. Nundahl also had the assist on that goal.
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) had 20 saves for the Saints, while Annah Smiddy had 51 saves for the Lions.
