How it Happened
After trailing for much of the game on Friday night, the Saints would score three goals in the first 10 minutes on Saturday. The first goal came from Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), who put in her own rebound just over three minutes in to make it 1-0. Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Tessa Lowry (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) had the assists.

Three minutes later, Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) found Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) for her first collegiate goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Nundahl had another assist on that goal. Then with just over 10 minutes left in the opening period, Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) found the net with Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) on the assists. Gorecki added one more goal in the final three minutes of the period to bring the score to 4-0 at the first intermission. Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) and Sabol had the assists.

Just one goal was added in the second period as it was Bloemke scoring for the second straight game with an assist from Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) to make it 5-0 at the second intermission.

The Lions (0-20-0, 0-12-0 NCHA) got on the board right off the opening faceoff of the third period to make it 5-1. Jessie Ketola (Silver Bay, Minn. /William Kelly HS) responded with her first collegiate goal, unassisted, to make the margin five goals once again. After Finlandia scored a minute later, Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) answered with a power-play goal to make the final 7-2. Thompson and Hull were credited with the assists.

Maddy Benson (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield HS) made her first collegiate start for the Saints and made 17 saves in the victory. Abby Edstrom had 32 saves for the Lions.
