DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted Northland College for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Wednesday night. The Saints opened up with a quick lead and held that lead the whole game to take a much-needed win for UMAC playoff standings, 76-59.
How It Happened
The Saints got on the board with two free throws and a layup by
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) to gain an early 4-2 lead over Northland (4-15, 2-10 UMAC). A bucket by
Morgan Anderson (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS (UW-Superior)) would increase the Saints lead to four before the LumberJills got within one point. In the final three minutes of the quarter the Saints went on an 11-5 run to gain a seven-point lead, 17-10.
A quick five points by Kennedy brought the Saints a 10-point lead at 22-12 with eight and a half minutes remaining in the quarter. The LumberJills responded with a run of their own putting up 12 points to the Saints' three to bring the game within one point at 25-24. In the final five and a half minutes the Saints would scrap together at 15-6 run to head into halftime leading 40-30.
St. Scholastica got out of the gate with a quick six points to start the third quarter to extend its lead to 16. Both teams traded buckets the remainder of the quarter with the Saints gaining a three-point edge over Northland to go into the fourth quarter up 59-46.
The Saints closed out the fourth quarter shooting 70 percent, while scoring 17 points compared to Northland's 25 percent shooting and 13 points. St. Scholastica went on to win 76-59.

Kennedy and Anderson had 22 points each for the Saints.
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) recorded eight points and matched a career-high eight assists.
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) and
Christina Furey (Lake Charles, La./Homeschooled) led the way with six rebounds apiece in the win.
