csssaints.com) – The fourth-seeded St. Scholastica women's hockey team got a pair of goals in the first and third periods to take game one of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Quarterfinals against third-seeded Aurora University 4-1 on Saturday.
How it Happened
St. Scholastica struck first when
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) found the net with seven minutes to go in the opening period.
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) was credited with the assist.
Ali Ratzloff (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Lourdes HS) then registered her first collegiate goal less than 90 seconds later on the power-play to extend the lead to 2-0.
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) had the assist. The Spartans were able to score on the power-play with less than two minutes remaining in the first period to make it 2-1 at the first intermission.
The second period went by scoreless with each team failing to convert a power-play opportunity. Pohlkamp would give the Saints a 3-1 five minutes into the third period.
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) had the assist. CSS then capped off the win with a
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) goal with over two minutes remaining to make the final 4-1. Pohlkamp had her second assist of the day on the goal.
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) made 28 saves to earn the win for the Saints and needs just six more saves to become the program's career leader in that category. Chiara Pfoshi had 25 saves in the loss for the Spartans

The Saints (13-9-4) and Spartans (17-9-0) will play game two of the series tomorrow (Sunday) with puck drop scheduled for noon. If the Saints win or tie, they will advance to Slaats Cup Championship weekend. If Aurora wins game two, a 20-minute mini-game will immediately follow the second game.
