Petersson Leads a Quintet of Women’s Skiers in 15km Classic

RESULTS

ISHPEMING, Mich. (csssaints.com) – In the final race of the season, first-year skier Maja Petersson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium) led five St. Scholastica women's skiers that all finished consecutively in Sunday's 15km Classic race at the NCAA Central Region Championships at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
 
Top Performers
Petersson came across the finish line in 14th place with a time of 1:01:45. It was the second time this season Petersson led the team in a Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) points race. Junior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) was 15th with a time of 1:02:38. Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) was 16th with a time of 1:02:53 to complete the scoring for the Saints. All three skiers scored in both races over the weekend.
 
Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) was 17th and Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) 18th to round out the St. Scholastica skiers in action.
 
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University won once again with a point total of 108 and captured the region championship. Michigan Tech University was second and the Saints were third.
 
End of Season
After the final points are tabulated the Saints likely see their season come to an end. Seven different skiers scored this season and of those seven, four were first-year skiers.
