Women’s Skiers Race to Third Place Finish to Begin Region Championships

ISHPEMING, Mich. (csssaints.com) – First-year skier Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) led the St. Scholastica women's ski team to a third-place finish in the 5km freestyle individual start of the NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
 
Top Performers
Stertz led the Saints for the third time this season with a 14th-place finish in a time of 15:12. Stertz has scored for the team in each of the last five points races she has competed in. Junior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) was 16th with a time of 15:38. First-year Maja Petersson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium) was the final Saint score in 18th place with a time of 15:44.
 
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University won with a team total of 108 points. The Wildcats swept the top two spots with Malin Boerjesjoe taking the individual win with a time of 13:45. Michigan Tech University was second with 90 points and the Saints third with 64 points.
 
Up Next
Tomorrow (Sunday) will be the final race of the season as the Saints will take part in the 15km classic mass start beginning at 12:30 p.m. (ET).
