csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team welcomed the University of Northwestern (Minn.) to The Reif on Saturday afternoon for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season finale. An early 12-0 run for the visiting Eagles would prove to be the detriment for the Saints as the Eagles prevailed 81-68.
How It Happened
Northwestern (19-6, 15-1 UMAC) won the opening tipoff and get a three pointer to go in to gain a 3-0 lead.
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) would come down on the next possession and answer with a three of his own to tie the game up 3-3. After another Eagle possession leading to a layup, Anderson once again would answer with a three to give the Saints a 6-5 lead early in the first half. Keeping with the same story, Northwestern made a layup with Anderson answering with a three to regain a 9-7 lead just two and a half minutes into the half.
The Saints went scoreless for the next five minutes with the Eagles capitalizing with a 12-0 run to gain a 19-9 lead.
Avery Kosloski (Willow River, Minn./Willow River HS) got the lid off the basket for the Saints, but St. Scholastica would continue to struggle from the field with only one made field goal for the next four minutes. Northwestern held a 32-12 lead with 7:33 left in the half. St. Scholastica closed out the final minutes of the half going on a 20-10 run on the shoulders of Anderson and
Yohanes Addiss Gebeyehu (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) scoring seven and six of the 20 points, respectively for the Saints. The Eagles still held a 42-32 lead heading into halftime.
The Saints got the second half rolling by getting the Northwestern lead down to seven points one minute into action. The Eagles responded with a 12-4 run in the next four minutes to increase their lead to 56-41 with just under 15 minutes to play. CSS battled for buckets, but would be unable to make any strong ground on its deficit. The Saints would end up falling to Northwestern by a score of 81-68.

Anderson led the Saints in scoring with 16 points.
Craig Burger (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) and Addiss Gebeyehu followed up with eight points apiece.

The Saints (13-12, 10-6 UMAC) will continue their championship aspirations on Monday night as they host first round action of the UMAC Tournament and welcome Crown College to The Reif. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
