First-Year Skiers Pace CSS Women in CCSA Classic Mass Start

HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – Three first-year skiers all scored for the St. Scholastica women's ski team in Sunday's Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championship 15km classic mass start on the Tech Trails.
 
Top Performers
Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) battled to the finish line with Barnes edging Stertz for 13th place overall with a time of 56:50.9. It marked the first time this season Barnes led the Saints in a CCSA race. Stertz was 14th with a time of 56:51.9. Maja Petersson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium) completed the scoring for the Saints, coming in 16th overall and 15th collegiately with a time of 58:06.
 
Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) was 17th collegiately and Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) 20th.
 
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University won the team title once again with 103 points on the day. NMU's Malin Boerjesjoe won the individual crown with a time of 51:29. Michigan Tech University was second with 95 points. The Saints came in third with 66 points.
 
Up Next
The Saints are back in the U.P. of Michigan next week for the NCAA Central Region Championships at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
