VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team battled Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday up at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club, but came up just short by a 6-3 decision.
Doubles
The Saints got off to a great start, winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3). The No. 2 team of
Syd Holt (Pequot Lakes, Minn. /Pequot Lakes HS) and
Madeline Samz (Burnsville, Minn. /Burnsville HS) also won a tight match by an 8-6 margin. The No. 3 team of
Hannah Loewen (St. James, Minn. /St. James HS) and
Emily Carpenter (Pine City, Minn. /Pine City HS) fell in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3).
Singles
CSS would only muster one win in singles play as Holt won in a three-set super-breaker 6-3, 5-7, (10-6). The Saints would drop third set super-breakers at the No. 2 and 4 positions.

The Saints (0-3) are back in Virginia tomorrow (Sunday) to face the University of St. Thomas. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
