csssaints.com) – First-year forward
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) scored twice and the St. Scholastica women's hockey team did not allow a Concordia University Wisconsin goal for the second straight day as the Saints swept the Falcons 2-0 on Saturday in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action.
How it Happened
Following a scoreless first period, which saw the Falcons (6-9-2, 5-4-1 NCHA) fail to convert on a power-play opportunity, the Saints capitalized on their second power-play opportunity of the second period as Hull scored her first of the game with three minutes remaining in the period.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had the assists.
Concordia failed on another power-play at the end of the second period into the third and the Saints gave themselves some cushion with over five minutes remaining as Hull found the net again to make it 2-0. Anderson and
Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) were credited with the assists. The Falcons pulled the goaltender in the final two minutes, but it was the Saints almost scoring as
Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) struck the pipe on the open target and the game ended in a 2-0 CSS win.
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) got the start in net and stopped all 24 shots she faced to earn her fourth shutout of the season. She also became the second goaltender in program history to eclipse 2,000 saves in a career. Breanna Thomson had 32 saves for Concordia.
