Benzing Leads Women’s Skiing in First CCSA Qualifier

HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's nordic ski team competed in the 10km individual freestyle on Friday at the U.S. Championships, which was also the first Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA)/NCAA Qualifier of the season.
 
Top Performances
Junior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) led the way with a 95th place finish overall and 13th-place among CCSA racers with a time of 32:49. Senior Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) was next to cross the line 15th amongst CCSA skiers and 116th place overall with a time of 33:31. The final Saint to score was Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) in 128th place (16th-CCSA) with a time of 33:58.
 
Team Scores
The Saints finished third on the day with a team score of 66. The host, Michigan Tech University, had the top CCSA score at 104. Northern Michigan University was right behind them with a score of 94.
 
Up Next
The Saints return to the course on Sunday for the 20km classic race, which begins at 1 p.m. (ET).
