MINNEAPOLIS (
csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to North Central University (Minn.) for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Wednesday night. Trailing early in the game the Saints battled back and found a nice offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter to seal a victory, winning the game 77-66.
How It Happened
The Rams (9-10, 5-4 UMAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead before
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) got the Saints on the board with a layup. Huber would add another layup, but North Central continued to hold a 12-4 lead. St. Scholastica brought the score within four points after a layup by
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS), but ended the first quarter down 23-17.
The Saints started out the first three minutes of the second quarter without a field goal with North Central extending its lead to seven points. St. Scholastica cut the deficit to three following another layup by Schmidt and a jumper by
Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)) to bring the score to 26-23 with six minutes left in the second quarter. Neither team would gain offensive momentum with North Central gaining on an extra one-point lead in the last six minutes of the quarter to go into halftime with North Central leading 35-29.
The Rams extended their lead to 49-39 early in the third quarter, but the Saints scored 14 of the next 18 points to tie it up with 2:30 left in the quarter at 53-53. The Saints continued to trade buckets with North Central and took its first lead of the game after a
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) made a layup and led 58-56 heading into the fourth.
North Central scored the first points of the fourth, but CSS went on an 11-0 run and North Central did not make another field goal until the final minute of the game. The Saints would win the game 77-66.
Top Performers
Skog led the Saints with 19 points followed by Kennedy with 13 points.
Christina Furey (Lake Charles, La./Homeschooled) led the way on the boards with 14 rebounds and scoring 11 points for a double-double and A. Huber followed with nine rebounds. Huber also led the way with six assists in the win.
