DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team welcomed Martin Luther College to The Reif for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Saints played a very efficient and strong game on both ends of the floor easily earning a 72-35 win.
How It Happened
The first quarter began with a 10-2 run for the Saints in the first four and a half minutes with
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) and
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) scoring four points each. Kennedy would add four more points in the remainder of the quarter, while the Saints defense held Martin Luther (1-16, 1-8 UMAC) to one made field goal holding a 15-7 lead.
The Saints would continue their strong play on both ends of the court going on a 9-4 run halfway through the second quarter. A dominating first five minutes would be followed by the same energy with a 14-4 run to close out the quarter with St. Scholastica holding a lofty 37-15 lead heading into halftime.
The third quarter began with two consecutive buckets by
Morgan Anderson (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS (UW-Superior)) and
Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)) to increase the Saints lead to 41-15. St. Scholastica would continue to be very efficient on the offensive end of the court scoring 24 points on 14 shots in the quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter the Saints led 61-28.
Both teams struggled to get buckets to go through the net in the final quarter with St. Scholastica and Martin Luther shooting under 25 percent from the field. The Saints would hold their large lead into the end of the game winning 72-35.
Top Performers
Kennedy led the offense with a game-high 18 points for the Saints. Anderson followed with 11 points. Schmidt led all rebounders with eight in the win.

St. Scholastica (6-12, 4-5 UMAC) travels to North Central University (Minn.) on Wednesday night as they open a two-game conference road trip. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
