Men’s Hockey Resumes NCHA Play this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team returns to the ice this weekend for a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series against Lawrence University (Wis.) at Mars Lakeview Arena.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints enter the second half of the season winners of three of their last four games.
-CSS is coming off a 4-1 home win over Gustavus Adolphus College on December 13.
-The Saints did not win a single game in January last year, going 0-8.
-Prior to last year, CSS had been a combined 19-4-2 in the month of January from 2016-2018.
-Junior Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) leads the team with seven goals and 10 points.
-Junior Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) and sophomore Sam Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minot-NAHL)) each have a team-best five assists.
-Rose and sophomore Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) have recorded points in each of the last three games they have appeared in.
-Rose, along with first-year players Isaac Kobienia (Wilmar, Minn./Willmar HS (Minnesota Wilderness-NAHL)) and Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)), are the only Saints to have recorded a point in each of the first four NCHA series.
-Senior goaltender Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) ranks third in the NCHA with 329 saves and fourth with a .924 save percentage.
-Steeves needs 16 saves to reach 1,000 for this career.
 
What You Need to Know about Lawrence:
Record: 3-8-1, 2-5-1 NCHA
-The Vikings will enter this weekend's series on a three-game losing streak.
-Lawrence began the year with five straight losses and then went 3-0-1 in a four-game stretch before dropping the last three.
-The Vikings have allowed at least five goals in six of their eight losses and rank at the bottom of the NCHA allowing 3.83 goals per game.
-Senior Jake Drinkard leads the team with seven goals and is tied for the team lead with nine points.
-Sophomore Vincent Dekumbis is one of three Vikings with six assists and also has nine points.
-Lawrence has three different goaltenders that have seen at least 150 minutes of action thus far this season.
-Sophomore Alex Mosquera has seen the most action with a 2.76 goals-against-average and .899 save percentage.
-The Vikings have been outscored 23-6 in the first period, but are outscoring opponents 17-7 in the third period.
-Lawrence has been ahead just one time after two periods this season.
-The Vikings lead the conference, averaging 20.3 penalty minutes per game.

Series History: The teams split last season with each team winning on each other's home ice … Lawrence's win at Mars Lakeview last season was its first in the series history.
