Benzing and Stertz Lead Women’s Skiers at Mount Itasca

RESULTS

COLERAINE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's nordic ski team had its second Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) points race of the season on Saturday, taking part in the 5km individual freestyle start as part of the Saints Invitational at the Mount Itasca Winter Sports Center.
 
Top Performances
Junior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) led the Saints coming in with the 11th best CCSA time in the field at 17:32. First-year skier Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) was 12th among CCSA skiers with a time of 18:04. Sophomore Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) was the final CSS skier to score coming in with a time of 18:35, which was 17th among collegiate skiers.
 
Also posting CCSA top 20 finishes were first-year skiers Leah Dutkewych (Jefferson, N.H./White Mountains HS) and Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS).
 
Team Points
Michigan Tech University's Sarah Goble won the event with a time of 16:11. However, her squad was edged by Northern Michigan University for the team win on the day as the Wildcats finished with 100 points and the Huskies with 98 points. The Saints were third with 67 points.
 
Up Next
Action resumes tomorrow (Sunday) at Mount Itasca with 15km classic mass start beginning at 11:20 a.m.
