Women’s Hockey Rebounds to Tie Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team held the lead the late over fourth-ranked Adrian College (Mich.), but the Bulldogs scored on the power-play with just over two minutes remaining in regulation as the Saints had to settle for a 2-2 tie to conclude the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NHCA) series on Saturday.
 
How it Happened
Adrian (12-2-3, 7-0-1 NCHA) scored in the first three minutes of the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Saints would get their first goal of the weekend on the power-play when Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) buried her fourth goal of the season with 1:43 remaining in period to make it 1-1 at the first intermission. Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) had the assist. CSS outshot the Bulldogs 12-7 in the opening frame.
 
After scoreless second period, the Saints took the lead with nine minutes remaining on a Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) goal. Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) were credited with the assists. CSS would then commit its first penalty of the game with just over four minutes remaining. The Saints were six seconds away from killing the Adrian power-play before the Bulldogs found the net to tie the game at 2-2.
 
St. Scholastica had a power-play with 1:07 left in regulation, but only got one shot on goal during it, which carried into overtime. The Saints then had another power-play with 21 seconds remaining in OT, but did not have enough time as the contest in a 2-2 tie.
 
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) made 37 saves for the Saints, while Denisa Jandova had 24 saves for the Bulldogs.
 
Up Next
The Saints (5-7-2, 2-3-1 NCHA) return to Mars Lakeview Arena next weekend for a two-game conference series against Trine University (Ind.). The series begins Friday at 7 p.m.
