MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday at the University of Minnesota Morris by an 85-68 final in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
 
How It Happened
The Cougars (8-5, 4-1 UMAC) scored 11 of the first 13 points of the game to take an early 11-point lead. The Saints responded with seven consecutive points and later cut the margin to 16-15 after a pair of Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)) free throws. However, Morris ended the first quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 25-15 lead into the second period.
 
The Cougars extended their lead to 33-17 in the first three minutes of the second quarter. The deficit was as much as 20 in the quarter before the half settled at 47-30. Morris shot 57 percent from the floor, while the Saints were held to 33 percent.
 
The third quarter was the only period where the Saints outscored the Cougars. Morris was ahead by 25 points before the Saints finished with 10-0 run to make it 64-49 after three quarters. Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) had nine points for the Saints in the period.
 
CSS only got as close as 13 in the final quarter as Morris maintained a healthy lead to win by a final of 85-68.
 
Top Performers
Kennedy led the Saints with 22 points, while Skog finished with 10 points. Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
 
Up Next
The Saints (5-9, 3-3 UMAC) will head to northern Wisconsin on Wednesday to face Northland College in another UMAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
