DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 2-2 Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
After not playing in a month, the Saints got off to slow start as the Pointers scored a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes of the game to take an early 2-0 lead. That was the score after one period, despite the Saints out-shooting the Pointers 13-6.
CSS earned a power-play early in the second period and took advantage as
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) found the net one minute and 19 seconds into the period to make it 2-1.
Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) and
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) were credited with the assists.
It remained 2-1 UWSP until the third period. After the Saints killed off a pair of Stevens Point power-plays, they earned a power-play of their own and found the equalizer on it as
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), from her knees, found
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) in front of the net, who buried the puck to make it 2-2 with 8:40 remaining.
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) was also credited with an assist. 60 minutes would not be enough as the game went to overtime.
In overtime, CSS drew another Pointer penalty. On the power-play, Gorecki's shot would be re-directed off the post. Anderson would also have re-direct that went just wide of the net as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 19 saves for the Saints, while Olivia Schultz had 30 saves for Stevens Point.
