Volleyball Caps Off Perfect Weekend

ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – After Friday night's thrilling victory, the St. Scholastica volleyball team made the trip to Northland College on Saturday and defeated both Concordia University-Chicago and Finlandia University (Mich.) to finish 3-0 on the weekend.
 
CSS 3, Concordia-Chicago 1
The Saints had a slight hangover to begin the day as the Cougars (3-5) jumped to a set lead, winning 25-19.
 
However, CSS responded by taking eight of the first nine points of the second set to even the match 25-14. The third set saw the Saints use a 6-0 run early and then added a 5-0 later to hold on and take the second set 25-21.
 
St. Scholastica jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set, but Concordia-Chicago went on a 7-1 run to tie it at 19-19. However, the Saints recorded six of the next seven points to take the match 25-20.
 
Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) led the Saints with a career-high 16 kills. Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) added 13 kills. Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 21 assists, while Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 19 assists. Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) recorded 25 digs.
 
CSS 3, Finlandia 0
In the final match of the day, the Saints had no problems with Finlandia (0-6), allowing only 24 points the entire match to win in three sets 25-6, 25-10, 25-8. CSS only trailed early in the first set for the entire match.
 
Lohmiller and Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) each had eight kills to pace the Saints. Kelsi Rippberger (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had a team-high 16 assists and Draper once again led the Saints with 16 digs.
 
Up Next
The Saints (5-1) will have their final early season tournament next weekend when they head to Waverly, Iowa and take part in the Knights Classic, hosted by Wartburg College. The Saints open with Grinnell College (Iowa) and host Wartburg on Friday.
