csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team began the Knights Classic on Friday with a pair of wins over Grinnell College (Iowa) and host Wartburg College (Iowa) to extend its win streak to five.
CSS 3, Grinnell 2
The Saints began the Classic by winning their second five-set match in as many Friday's with another come-from-behind victory over previously unbeaten Grinnell (9-1). CSS trailed 2-1 before capturing the fourth set 25-22 and then taking the fifth set 15-12.
Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and
Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) each had 12 kills to pace the Saints.
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) added a season-high 10 kills.
Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) registered a season-high 31 assists and
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) led the way with 16 digs. Draper also had five service aces.
CSS 3, Wartburg 1
In the nightcap, the Saints dropped the first set to the Knights (5-5), but won the next three sets with strong play late in each set to win in four.
Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) led the Saints with 13 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Remer added 12 kills. Austvold had 15 assists and Draper had 16 digs, while
Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had three service aces.
Remer had double-doubles in both matches on the evening to give her five for the season.
