How it Happened
The Auggies (4-2) struck quick with a goal five minutes in by Ashley St. Aubin. That was the score at halftime despite Augsburg outshooting the Saints 22-4.
The Saints would get an opportunity in the 52
nd minute as Augsburg's keeper committed foul in the box off a CSS corner kick, which set up a penalty kick for the Saints.
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) stepped up and buried the PK to tie the contest 1-1.
15 minutes later, off a St. Scholastica free kick,
Jordan Lundberg (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS) found
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) far post, who proceeded to find the back of the net to make the score 2-1 Saints.
Augsburg would have chances late to equalize, but
Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)) made five saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve the 2-1 victory.
Gothard finished with 17 saves, the most by a CSS goalkeeper since the 2007 season.
