csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team allowed two goals in the final 20 minutes to drop its home opener to Saint John's University 3-1 on Sunday at Saints Field.
How it Happened
The Johnnies (2-0) scored the lone goal of the first half, slotting one past the keeper in the 16
th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
CSS came out with more pressure in the second half as
Nolan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) evaded defenders and was ultimately taken down in the box drawing a penalty kick in the 60
th minute.
Malcolm Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)) would take the PK and bury it home, inside the right post, to equalize the contest at 1-1.
The Johnnies then had a near miss, striking the post, but would regain the lead moments later on a Cavin Allen goal in the 71
st minute. Saint John's then added an insurance goal in the 86
th minute to make the final 3-1.
Goalkeeping
Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) made five saves in the defeat, while Nicholas French also made five saves to earn the win for the Johnnies.
