DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – 17th-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse got four goals from Sophie Amundson in the first 22 minutes of the game en route to a 7-1 victory over the St. Scholastica women's soccer team in Friday's season opener at Saints Field.
 
How it Happened
The Eagles would control possession most of the game, out-shooting the Saints 24-2. Amundson got the Eagles on the board four minutes and 25 seconds into the season. She would add three more goals before the 23rd minute.
 
The Saints got their first goal of the season in the 34th minute on a Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) free kick that deflected off of the goalkeeper mitts and into the net.
 
La Crosse added three more goals, including two in the second half to make the final score 7-1.
 
Goalkeeping
Chiara DeLuca (Twig, Minn./Proctor HS) got the start for the Saints, making two saves in the first 45 minutes. Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)) played the second half and made three saves.
 
The Eagles used three goalkeepers in the victory with Lily Brock playing the first half to get the victory.
 
Up Next
The Saints will welcome the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow (Saturday) to Saints Field to conclude the BSN Sports Labor Day Challenge. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Warhawks fell to the College of Saint Benedict 3-2 in overtime on Friday.
