CHICAGO (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team lost to Grinnell College (Iowa) 5-0 on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, hosted by the University of Chicago.
Doubles
The Pioneers (26-4) won all three doubles matches with the Saints capturing seven games total in the three matches.
Singles
Singles play was much better for the Saints as
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") at the No. 1 spot won his first set 6-4 and
Rafa Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/FESA) at the No. 3 spot also won his first set 6-3.
However, both of those matches did not finish before Grinnell sealed the dual win with victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots.
End of Season
The Saints finish with an overall record of 14-8. CSS will say goodbye to seniors
Elliot Kazlauskas (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) and
Caleb Thill (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS).
