Game 1: UWS 2, CSS 0
The Saints would be held hitless in game one of the doubleheader and had only three baserunners in a 2-0 loss to the Yellowjackets (7-15, 4-0 UMAC).
Superior scored both of its runs on RBI singles in the fifth inning.
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) struck out nine batters and scattered six hits in the loss. Ashley Taipale threw the no-hitter for the Yellowjackets.
Game 2: UWS 4, CSS 3 (F/8)
The second game saw the Saints jump out to an early lead, only to see the Yellowjackets tie the game in the seventh inning and then score the game-winner in extra innings to complete the sweep 4-3.
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) led off the game for the Saints with a single for the first hit of the day. Two batters later Schley hit a ground-rule double to give CSS a 1-0 lead.
Krysta Felber (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Schley and make it 2-0.
After UWS added a run in the second, Schley hit a solo home run over the right field fence to make it 3-1 in the third inning.
It remained 3-1 until the top of the seventh. The 'jackets began the inning with back-to-back doubles. Then a pair of sacrifice flies tied the contest at 3-3 to send the game to extra innings.
In the eighth, UWS would get a two-out RBI double to take its first lead of the game at 4-3. CSS would get the tying runner on base to lead off the bottom frame, but would do nothing with it, falling 4-3.
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) went seven innings and struck out four in the defeat. Taipale also pitched most of game two to earn the win once again. Schley was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
