DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team swept the University of Minnesota Morris in a doubleheader by a combined score of 15-1 at Saints Field on Saturday.
Game 1: CSS 9, UMM 0 (F/5)
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) pitched a no-hitter in the game one win that ended in five innings. Schley struck out four batters and is the first CSS no-hitter since April 19, 2016.
The Saints opened the scoring in the first inning after a walk by
Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) with the bases loaded allowed
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) to make it 1-0. The Saints eight other runs all came in the fourth inning.
A home run by Fourre was the first run of the inning to make it 2-0. A double by
Kayla Christopherson (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS (Itasca CC)) then allowed
Megan Hautajarvi (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) to score. A single by Anders drove in two runs to make it 5-0. Anders was driven in by
Sydney Plemel (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) to increase the Saints' advantage to six.
Plemel scored the seventh run after a fielding error by the Cougars. A double by
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) drove in
Krysta Felber (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) and
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) to make the final score 9-0 in favor of CSS.
Bishop was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, while Anders was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Game 2: CSS 6, UMM 1
In the second game, the Saints jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and went on to win 6-1.
Howe pitched all seven innings for the Saints, allowing four hits, while striking out four. CSS' first run of the game came in the second inning after a wild pitch allowed Fourre to score. A single by
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) then drove in Bishop to make it 2-0.
A double by Howe in the third inning drove in Schley to make it 3-0. Anders then singled in the fourth inning to drive in Thul and Christopherson. CSS' sixth run came through a double by Schley that allowed Anders to score.
The Cougars (13-15, 4-6 UMAC) were able to score their first run of the series in the top of the sixth for a final score of 6-1 to CSS.
Schley and Thul each had a pair of hits for the Saints. Anders drove in a pair of runs. Kallie Wycoff was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Cougars.

The Saints (12-12, 4-2 UMAC) head to Minneapolis on Wednesday for a doubleheader against North Central University (Minn.). The first game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
