MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team swept North Central University (Minn.) in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader action on Thursday, winning both games 11-0 in five innings.
Game 1: CSS 11, NCU 0 (F/5)
CSS opened the scoring in the first inning, scoring four runs to take an early 4-0 lead. The first run came after an RBI by
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) drove in
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS). Then, fielding errors allowed
Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS),
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) to all score on the same play.
The Saints added two more runs in the second, after RBIs by Schley and Howe. Then a home run by Schley in the fourth inning also drove in Thul to make it 8-0 to CSS. The Saints were able to extend their lead further in the fifth inning after RBIs by
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS),
Kayla Christopherson (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS (Itasca CC)) and
Alex Wurzer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) increased CSS' lead to 11 runs.
Schley earned the win in the pitching circle for the Saints, pitching all five innings and only allowing five hits. Schley was also 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, home run and three RBIs.
Game 2: CSS 11, NCU 0 (F/5)
The Saints first got on the board in the first inning after a double by Howe drove in both Thul and Anders. Then, a triple by Fourre allowed Howe to score. Fourre was then able to score thanks to a fielding error by the Rams to give CSS an early 4-0 lead.
Then in the second, another homer by Schley also drove in Thul to increase CSS' advantage to six runs. Then RBIs by Bishop and Christopherson made it 8-0 to CSS.
The third inning saw the Saints add three more runs, via a home run by Anders, and RBIs by Schley and Fourre.
Howe pitched all five innings for the Saints, only allowing two hits and throwing three strikeouts. Thul was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Schley drove in three runs

The Saints (21-13, 11-3 UMAC) head to Mankato on Saturday for the final conference doubleheader of the season against regular season champion Bethany Lutheran College, with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m.
