How it Happened
The Gophers (12-14) jumped out to an early lead after scoring three unearned runs in the first and then putting a two-out rally together to add four more in the second to make it 7-0.

After CSS left the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Minnesota added two more runs in the bottom half to make it 9-0.

The Saints got on the board in the fifth when Joey Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) hit a solo home run to left center for his first homer of the season. The Gophers homered in the bottom frame as part of a four-run inning to extend the lead.

In the seventh, Braydon Hanson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (UW-Whitewater)) and Brad Fossum (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake HS (Concordia-St. Paul)) each reached to lead off the inning. Later in the inning, Aaron Weber (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Pierz HS) drove in both Hanson and Fossum with a two-RBI single. Eric Pearson (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) followed with a RBI double to bring in Conor Wollenzien (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) to make it 13-4

Minnesota added one more run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 14-4.

Pitching
Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) struck out two in 4.2 innings in the loss. Grant Mergen (Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) struck out three in 3.1 innings of relief. Sam Thoreson struck out 10 in four innings to earn the win.
