MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated the University of Minnesota Morris by a score of 8-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Doubles
The Saints won all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) defeated their opponents by a score of 8-5. Sara Wennerstrand (Baxter, Minn. /Brainerd HS (Saint Benedict)) and Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) won by a score of 8-2 at the No. 2 spot. Finally, Serena Hutson (Meridian, Idaho/Bishop Kelly HS) and Sydney Vyskocil (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS) won 8-3 at the No. 3 spot.
Singles
Five of six Saints won their singles matches, and four of five won in straight sets. Wennerstrand played at the No. 1 singles spot and defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at the No. 2 spot, winning by scores of 6-4, 6-2.
Serena Hutson (Meridian, Idaho/Bishop Kelly HS) won at the No. 5 spot in straight sets, taking the first set by a score of 6-1 and the second 6-3. Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn. /Hibbing HS) won at the No. 6 spot in straight sets, both by a score of 6-1.
Jankila won her first set at the No. 3 spot by a score of 7-6 (7-5), fell in the second set 7-5, but edged her opponent in the super-breaker 12-10.

The Saints (14-6, 6-0 UMAC) have their final match of the regular season next Saturday against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
