csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team shut out Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 9-0 late Wednesday night in a battle of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) unbeatens.
Doubles
The No. 1 team of
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Sara Wennerstrand (Baxter, Minn. /Brainerd HS (Saint Benedict)) won 8-2. The No. 2 tandem of
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) and
Brynne Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) prevailed 8-4. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) edged their opponents 8-6.
Singles
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot. Wennerstrand also had no issues at the No. 2 position, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Rice was in a battle at the No. 3 spot, dropping the first set 6-3, but rallied to take the second set 6-4 and would outlast her opponents 10-8 in the third set super-breaker.
Fink won 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot, while B. Hauer won 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 5 position. The final winner on the evening was Jankila at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
