ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica baseball team dominated Macalester College with scores of 11-0 and 6-0 for the doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.

Game One: CSS 11, MAC 0
After a quick first inning, the Saints came out to do some damage in the second. Eric Pearson (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) got things rolling with a solo home run to right field to put CSS on the board. A couple of hits from Lane Girtz (Pierz, Minn./Pierz Healy HS), James Fuerniss (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague HS), and Cole Tyman (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound HS) gave the Saints a 2-0 advantage before the inning ended. A pitching battle left the next inning and a half scoreless. A double from Pearson in the third, and a sac fly from Weber in the fourth put up two more runs for the Saints.

The Scots (10-13) were holding on tight until they gave up five hits and allowed six runs in the sixth inning. Girtz, Fuerniss, and Tyman each reached base safely to load the bases. A fielder's choice stopped Girtz from scoring, but granted Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) first base to keep the bases full. Joey Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Conor Wollenzien (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) dropped back-to-back doubles to clear the bases and add four more runs to the Saints' lead. After Weber and Pearson each drew a walk, both scored on Girtz double to make it a 10-0 game before Macalester retired the side. The Saints pushed one more run across in the seventh and played solid defense to eventually grant them the 11-0 win.

Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) went six innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven to earn the win. Jack Horman (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) saw his first collegiate action to close the game. Tyman went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Zwak had three RBIs, while Girtz had two. Pearson was the lone Saint to homer in game one.

Game Two: CSS 6, MAC 0
Once again, the Saints got the ball rolling in the second inning with three runs off of two hits. Girtz produced the first hit with a single up the middle. Fuerniss and Tyman followed it up with back-to-back walks to fill the bases. Olson was hit by a pitch to bring in Girtz for run number one. After, Brad Fossum (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake HS (Concordia-St. Paul)) smoked a double up the middle to drive in two more before the end of the inning.

St. Scholastica drew a bases loaded walk in the third and added its fifth run in the fourth inning off a Pearson sacrifice fly. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that the Scots got their first hit, though they couldn't convert it to a run. The Saints sealed the deal in the top of the seventh with and RBI from Olson to score Girtz, leaving them with a score of 6-0.

Jerry Gooley (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) earned his first collegiate complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. Gooley was perfect through five innings. Wollenzien went 2-for-2 in the batter's box and Fossum tallied three RBIs while Olson collected two.
